MATCH PREVIEW: Burnley vs. Manchester United

Match Build Up

Manchester United return to Premier Leaguer action Tuesday as they travel to Turf Moor to play Burnley, a win or draw and United will be top of the table. United are currently second in the division, level on 33 points with Liverpool, while Burnley occupy 16th, having picked up 16 points from their 15 matches in 2020-21.

On paper the matchup favors United but Burnley have been in great form lately having lost just one of their last six Premier League games. While United have only lost once in seven away matches.

Turf Moor has been very friendly to United who have only lost once since 2009 and have won on each of their last four visits, scoring seven times in total and keeping a clean sheet on every occasion.

Manchester United Team News

United revealed after Saturday’s game with Watford that Paul Pogba, Victor Lindelof and Luke Shaw were all injured for the FA Cup fixture rather than rested.

All three could return for Tuesday’s game, but Eric Bailly faces a battle to prove his fitness, having suffered a neck injury in a collision with Dean Henderson during Saturday’s fixture.

Phil Jones and Facundo Pellistri are still out while Marcos Rojo remains a huge doubt, but Edinson Cavani has now served a three-game suspension and is in contention for a starting spot.

There will be wholesale changes from the clash with Watford, with the likes of Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, Bruno Fernandes, David de Gea and Fred all coming back in, but Alex Telles and Axel Tuanzebe could yet keep their spots depending on the fitness of Shaw and Lindelof.

Manchester United possible starting lineup:

De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire, Shaw; McTominay, Fred; Pogba, Fernandes, Rashford; Martial

  1. If everything after Shaw’s tackle wasn’t in play, then surely the tackle on Cavani was an off the ball incident? Straight red, Burnley down to 11 anyway. 😀
