Ed Woodward has lost multiple players over the past few years due to poor negotiation tactics. With no luck in the January transfer window thus far, United are now querying Milan about the availability of Krzysztof Piatek.
The Milan frontman has had a disappointing campaign thus far. Piatek has scored 4 goals in 18 appearances for AC Milan in the Serie A this season. United would look to Piatek as a short term fill-in for the injured Marcus Rashford. Milan appears to want to sell the striker, rather than loan him, due to the fear that he will not regain his form with a change of scenery.
Piatek has been mentioned in rumors with Spurs, making a move from the San Siro to the Premier League more likely. Both United and Spurs want Piatek to compensate for injured strikers. One average transfer is better than no transfers at all, but United could find a better short term solution than Piatek.
